July Book Haul 2018!

Hi everyone!!

Sorry that this post is a bit late in the month. I have been so busy with art school that I just haven’t had time to write this post. Last month I brought more books than I normally do! YAY!!! In total I brought 11 books, so I’m going to introduce the books I brought into categories so here we go:

Hard Covers:

I39099533_525325394556358_2812630892235718656_n brought two hardcovers this month! A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Frost and Starlight written by Sarah J. Maas. I think these covers are just so beautiful! With this being one of my favourite book series I just had to start buying the hard covers since I own all the paperbacks.

For those who haven’t read A Court of Thorns and Roses here is the Goodreads description:

‘Feyre’s survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price …
38949069_216930848977394_2275714556661596160_nDragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre’s presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.’

I definitely recommend reading these books if you love a good young adult fantasy series!

New Series I discovered:

There were a few series over June and July that I heard about, which I put on to my TBR/buy list. I was able to buy some of them/finish buying them last month which I was super excited about, but now I need a new book shelf!

  1. Carve the Mark series by Veronica Roth

Book 1: Carve the Mark

Book 2: Fates divide

I am super excited to read these books! They sound amazing! I loved Veronica’s Divergent series, I thought her writing was magnificent. So I am super pumped to read this series! Here is the Goodreads description for Carve the Mark, I won’t put in Fates divides description for obvious reasons:

‘Cyra is the sister of the brutal tyrant who rules the Shotet people. Cyra’s currentgift gives her pain and power—something her brother exploits, using her to torture his enemies. But Cyra is much more than just a blade in her brother’s hand: she is resilient, quick on her feet, and smarter than he knows.
Akos is the son of a farmer and an oracle from the frozen nation-planet of Thuvhe. Protected by his unusual currentgift, Akos is generous in spirit, and his loyalty to his family is limitless. Once Akos and his brother are captured by enemy Shotet soldiers, Akos is desperate to get his brother out alive—no matter what the cost.
Then Akos is thrust into Cyra’s world, and the enmity between their countries and families seems insurmountable. Will they help each other to survive, or will they destroy one another?

Carve the Mark is Veronica Roth’s stunning portrayal of the power of friendship—and love—in a galaxy filled with unexpected gifts.’

2. Caraval series by Stephanie Garber

Book 1: Caraval,38935344_251249715496572_2835702546016763904_n.jpg

Book 2: Legendary

I have heard so many good reviews on this book! I read the Goodreads description and it caught my interest rather fast. I haven’t read it yet but I plan to very soon hopefully!!

Good reads description for Caraval is as follows:

‘Scarlett Dragna has never left the tiny island where she and her sister, Tella, live with their powerful, and cruel, father. Now Scarlett’s father has arranged a marriage for her, and Scarlett thinks her dreams of seeing Caraval—the faraway, once-a-year performance where the audience participates in the show—are over.
But this year, Scarlett’s long-dreamt-of invitation finally arrives. With the help of a mysterious sailor, Tella whisks Scarlett away to the show. Only, as soon as they arrive, Tella is kidnapped by Caraval’s mastermind organizer, Legend. It turns out that this season’s Caraval revolves around Tella, and whoever finds her first is the winner.
Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. Nevertheless she becomes enmeshed in a game of love, heartbreak, and magic. And whether Caraval is real or not, Scarlett must find Tella before the five nights of the game are over or a dangerous domino effect of consequences will be set off, and her beloved sister will disappear forever.

Welcome, welcome to Caraval…beware of getting swept too far away.’

Have you read this yet? If so what did you think?

3. Cruel Crown by Victoria Aveyard

I brought this one to add to my Red Queen series which sadly I haven’t read yet either. Here is Goodreads description for it. If you haven’t read the red queen series yet don’t read the description below:

9781409165330.jpgTwo women on either side of the Silver and Red divide tell the stories no one else knows.

Discover the truth of Norta’s bloody past in these two revealing prequels to #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestseller RED QUEEN.

Queen Song

Queen Coriane, first wife of King Tiberias, keeps a secret diary—how else can she ensure that no one at the palace will use her thoughts against her? Coriane recounts her heady courtship with the crown prince, the birth of a new prince, Cal, and the potentially deadly challenges that lie ahead for her in royal life.

Steel Scars

Captain Farley was raised to be strong, but being tasked with planting the seeds of rebellion in Norta is a tougher job than expected. As she travels the land recruiting black market traders, smugglers, and extremists for her first attempt at an attack on the capital, she stumbles upon a connection that may prove to be the key to the entire operation—Mare Barrow.

Favourite series I am buying my own copies of:

38949175_236618266992905_4583938764463669248_n.jpgThere is going to be a few of these on my book haul lists each month. This is because the last nearly 3 years I have been buying my own copies of books I really liked that I read when I was at home. My Mum brought a lot of books, because she is a lot like me; book nerd and loves young adult fantasy books. But because my room was so small, ( I grew up in a family of 7 people) I did not have the room to buy books so I just read my Mums copies. But since moving out of home nearly 3 years ago I have been able to start buying my own copies. Which has been fantastic! Last month the series I finished buying was the Mortal Instruments series written by Cassandra Clare. I absolutely loved this series and thus to finish my collection I got:

Book 2: City of Ashes

Book 3: City of Glass

Book 4: City of Lost Souls

Book 5: City of Heavenly Fire.

These books are a different cover to my other books, but I like having a range of different covers but will be collecting the covers in the original format that my book one and four is in eventually. (yes I’m that weird person that likes having multiple copies of the same book in different covers for my favourite book series) Mortal Instruments just happens to be a favourite of mine. after buying these books my Cassandra Clare collection is complete. Just waiting on the next book to the Dark Artifices collection: Queen of Air and Darkness, which is released in December, which I already have preordered. haha oops!

What books did you buy last month? or if you didn’t buy any, what is a book series you love so much that you have multiple copies of?

Thanks for reading! Hope you are enjoying your Sunday!

Rose xx
